Flughafen Tempelhof war einer der ersten Verkehrsflughäfen Deutschlands und nahm 1923 den Linieverkehr auf. Er war bis zu seiner Schließung am 30.10.2008 neben Tegel und Schönefeld einer von 3 internationalen Verkehrsflughäfen in Berlin. Während der Berliner Blockade von 26.6.1948 bis 12.5.1949 starteten und landeten dort Maschinen zeitweise im 90 Sek. Takt. Die Luftbrücke sicherte die Versorgung der Berliner.Mit einer Gesamtfläche von 300.000m2 gehört das denkmalgeschützte Flughafengebäude noch immer zu den größten Bauwerken der Welt. Die Innenflächen werden teilweise für Messen genutzt. Seit dem 8.5.2010 ist das Tempelhofer Feld für alle geöffnet. Ein Volksentscheid (2014 ) sichert den Berlinern jetzt ihre grüne Oase mitten in der Stadt und auch einige gefährdete Vögel wie das Braunkelchen, die Feldlerche und der Steinschmetzer behalten ihr zu Hause.
